Qatar will welcome the first Workers’ Cup of the new decade. The eighth edition of the competition, organized by the Qatar Stars League (QSL) and sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), starts on Friday, February 28th.
The 2020 edition draw was held on Tuesday at the Al Aziziyah Boutique Hotel in the Aspire Zone. Coaches and captains from all teams were present.
Twenty teams are fighting for the chance to become champions in 2020. The tournament favorites Nakheel Landscapes want to win the title for the fourth time in a row.
Nakheel, SC’s prime contractor for the development of training facilities in Qatar in 2022, won last year’s title after defeating Taleb Group 4-0 in the final at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in front of 10,000 passionate fans. This year, 18 of the 20 participants are connected to the SC.
The group phases and co-rounds of this year’s tournament will take place in the cluster of training venues in Qatar 2022 at the University of Qatar. Players will follow in the footsteps of numerous international teams, including Algeria, Iran, Oman, and India, who used the facility as a training base last year.
After the draw, Hassan Rabiah Al Kuwari, Executive Director of Marketing, Sales, and Communication at QSL said: “We are proud to announce the eighth edition of the Workers’ Cup. We know what this tournament means for all participants.
“The Workers’ Cup not only offers our valued employees the opportunity to keep fit and present their skills to a wide audience but also helps to further expand grassroots football in our country. I look forward to another successful edition in this country Year and beyond. ”
