At the Australian Open, Tennis is Thrown Into The Esports With $ 500,000 Fortnite Tournaments

Professional tennis is becoming increasingly popular in the field of sports. One of the biggest sporting events, the Australian Open, will feature a Fortnite: Battle Royale tournament called “Summer Smash” ($ 500,000).

The Summer Smash will consist of two separate Fortnite events, the first of which will be a solo tournament with 100 Fortnite professional players, and the other will be a benefit event for any occasion where authors, athletes and celebrities can participate.

The event will take place on the weekend of January 26, with five qualifying runs of two games each, with the top 20 players in each round going to the Grand Final.

The Grand Final will take place on January 27th and the finalists will fight over six games. The pro-Am presidency begins shortly after the final.

The solo tournament will be rewarded with a $ 400,000 prize pool, while $ 100,000 will be available for charitable donations during pro-am.

The Summer Smash format is split evenly between Victory Royales and eliminations. Check the point distribution below.

2nd-3rd Place: +2 Points
4th-10th Place: +1 Point
3-4 Eliminations: +1 Point
5-6 Eliminations: +2 Points
7+ Eliminations: +3 Points

However, the solo tournament will not invite its competitors through invitations as the first 500 participants who register for the event will be placed in the above qualifying rounds.

At the time of writing, the event is only open to residents of Australia and New Zealand aged 16+. The organizers of the Australian Open will also provide all equipment for the players participating in the tournament who are not allowed to use their own peripherals.
