Angladesh has recalled wicket keeper batsman Anamul Haque and left wing Taijul Islam in his 14-member squad for the three-day international series against Sri Lanka starting on July 26.
Taijul and Anamul will replace the all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and wicket’s thug, Liton Das, both of whom have been on leave from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following the 2019 Men’s Cricket World Cup. The player, who was a member of the Cadet of the Bangladeshi Football World Cup in England but did not play in a single game, was dropped.
Mashrafe Mortaza, captain of Bangladesh during the World Cup, will continue to take the lead. Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah and Mohammad Saifuddin were also included after recovering from injuries suffered during the World Cup.

BCB chief voter Minhajul Abedin said Anamul was rewarded for his recent performance against Afghanistan A. “He recently (Anamul) hit a ton for Bangladesh A,” said Abedin. “We hope he will be able to repeat the performance and we’ve also thought about Imrul Kayes, but his recent performance does not live up to expectations.”
Abedin added that Taijul Islam joined the squad to fill the spinner’s left arm gap in Shakib’s absence. “We did not make any big changes in the World Cup squad here, and since we do not have Shakib and Liton, we’ll take two players to their seats and drop one player, we need a spinner with the left arm, so do Taijul.” He is playing in India now. “
Anamul, whose last appearance at the ODI took place in July 2018 against the West Indies, would definitely like to take this opportunity. “I have been waiting for this day. Now my main focus is on providing good services. As a cricketer, I always believe that good performances are the best I can do for the team, “Anamul told UNB.
Bangladesh will travel to Sri Lanka without Steve Rhodes, who officially resigned from his post as head coach following the World Cup. The BCB has suggested that Khaled Mahmud, the manager of Bangladesh during the World Cup, could temporarily take over the position.
