The first game in the Caribian Premier League series “LIVE”, a broadcast of a classic Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) game with new comments, is the most successful live stream in the history of the tournament. Millions of viewers watch the world.
The 2013 Jamaica Tallawahs vs. Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel game was retransmitted and commented live from around the world, with the comment team isolated. World-class commentators Ian Bishop, Danny Morrison, Tom Moody, Daren Ganga and Alex Jordan were not told what game they would watch so they could respond to the action as if it were live. This fun twist was enjoyed by fans around the world – many of them were convinced that the game was played live!
Faced with the current COVID-19 crisis, which is having a huge impact on the world, and particularly on sports, the CPL has partnered with the Grabyo streaming service, which uses state-of-the-art software to allow commentators to play while adding comments live from their homes in Trinidad, Australia, Barbados. It was a truly global undertaking and a world first.
With everyone around the world being asked to stay at home, this unique way of doing sports has been very welcomed by cricket fans, and the CPL plans to launch a number of classic games with brand new comments in the coming weeks.
Chris Watson, Marketing Director of CPL, said: “We were thrilled with the response to the first game in this series and were able to provide CPL fans around the world with much-needed entertainment.
It was great fun reliving a fantastic game from the past, and we look forward to doing more in the coming weeks. We are truly grateful to our wonderful commentators who have given up their time and dedicated themselves to offering this unique sports experience! ”
