It would be very difficult for you to find something that would deter Cheyna Matthews.
The fact that she competes in the Concacaf women’s qualifier against Jamaica is impressive in itself. In the past two years alone, Matthew’s husband married Jordan, gave birth to their son Josiah, returned to professional football – where she plays for the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) – and represented Jamaica on her first appearance at FIFA Women’s World Cup ™.
Matthews is currently on a mission with Reggae Girlz to build on their historic France 2019 adventure and to qualify for the women’s Olympic football tournament for the first time in their history. Meanwhile, Jordan is preparing for his first Super Bowl as a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers.
For the past two seasons, Jordan has been on the team that won the Super Bowl. However, he was either cut or released on both occasions for various reasons before the championship game. “This is the third year he’s been with a team that has now entered the Super Bowl,” said Matthews. “Hopefully they win because it’s only fitting that this happened three years in a row. It was an interesting way.”
