Both teams have three wins against their name from nine games and are currently in the lower half of the points table.
The last time these two teams competed against each other in the 2020 IPL, when they launched their campaign, RR had beaten CSK in Sharjah with 16 runs on the back of Sanju Samson’s whirlwind 74 and Steve Smith’s 47-ball 69. While RR will go for a win once, CSK will seek to revive their season, CSK will try to settle the score and keep their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive.
With both teams aiming for a successful return, here are the players who could change the course of the game.
Ambati Rayudu comes into this game with his 25-Ball 45 * against DC. The right handed player has three consecutive 40 plus points and will try to get a better one and score a big one against RR.
While things didn’t go as he would have liked in the final against DC, Ravindra Jadeja, the batsman, has made some key contributions, including the one in his last game where he scored 33 * out of 13 balls. CSK would like Jadeja to continue to contribute with the bat
Steve Smith scored 57 of 36 balls against RCB to get back in shape after playing a few racket games. The RR skipper will try to take off from the point where he left against RCB as CSK on his side. The last time these two teams faced each other, Smith had 69 balls out of 47, and that will serve as motivation for the right-hander as well.
Promotion to the top of the Order did wonders for Robin Uthappa as he got a 45 fluent score against RCB. The right-hander scored quickly, cleared the rope effortlessly and gave RR a solid start. He will try to improve his form against CSK.
Faf du Plessis
After a few low scores, Faf du Plessis returned to form, scoring fifty against DC. With runs from nine games, the right-handed is currently the leading run-getter for CSK and was the top run scorer for CSK when he last faced RR. He achieved 72 of 37 deliveries. The right-hander will again be someone CSK will rely on against Steve Smith and Co.
While young Kartik Tyagi only had one wicket to show for his performance against RCB, the pacemaker with the right arm continued to impress. He wasn’t afraid of throwing sharp short balls and managed to keep his nerve against AB de Villiers as well. Tyagi will try to continue his improvement and put on another good show with the ball.
