Stoinis then fired Chris Jordan when Rabada grabbed a short square leg to get the game into the super over.
Rabada, who had previously collected two wickets in his 4-over spell, then got KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran and limited KXIP to 2. DC, which took 3 to win the game in Super Over without losing a wicket.
Previously, KXIP had scored early after winning the Bowl when DC lost Shikhar Dhawan to spout. Shimron Hetmyer received an early break from Mohammad Shami’s bowling on the DC debut. But the right arm pacemaker didn’t have to wait too long to strike and fired Hetmyer and Prithvi Shaw on his second over to reduce DC to 13/3 after 4 overs.
Skippers Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant then began rebuilding the innings. The two ended their 50-year partnership in Game 12 before Iyer hit K Gowtham for two sixes in Game 13 to bring DC close to 80.
The partnership was broken, however, courtesy of debutant Ravi Bishnoi’s first IPL wicket when he sacked Pant for 31. Shami, who threw three overs on power play, then returned to attack and picked up his third wicket when Iyer was killed for 39.
Axar Patel was the next man to get out after Sheldon Cottrell, another IPL debutant, caught the DC all-rounder behind the gates. The left arm pacemaker added another wicket to his balance on the last ball of the spell, dismissing R Ashwin.
DC needed something special and Marcus Stoinis delivered and how. The Australian all-rounder made an all-out attack and hammered 53 of 21 balls with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Stoinis was eventually exhausted in the final, but not before hitting two fours and as many sixes to bring his team to 157/8.
