20-year-old batsman Shubman Gill was selected in India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming three-test series against South Africa. Opener KL Rahul was left out.
Gill averaged a staggering 72.15 in top-flight cricket and was recently captain of the Indian senior team in a victory over South Africa A in Thiruvananthapuram. The only 20-year-old Gill was one of the stars of the Indian ICC triumph at the U19 World Cup Cricket Championships in New Zealand last year, averaging 124 points.
Gill joins the Indian side at the expense of KL Rahul on India’s recent tour of the West Indies. Rahul failed to pass 50 in any of his four innings in the series.
The series will begin on October 2 in Visakhapatnam with the following two tests in Pune and Ranchi.
