Sixth seed Mohammad Hamza Ilyas shocked third seed Kamran Albert Masih in the final of the Jubilee Insurance U-16 snooker championship at the Pakistan Sports Complex here on Tuesday.
Hamza of Punjab comfortably won the game 87-26, 61-34, 61-39, 55-28 to win the national title. Khyber Pakhtunkhwas Kamran, who scored an unlucky win over top-scorer Umar Khan in the semifinals, could not resist Hamza in the final.
Hamza has been playing in the U18 national championship for three years, saying that one day he wants to represent Pakistan in the professional world.
Hamza dreams big and believes that snooker can only take him seriously to bring him into a professional field. He trains with former snooker stars Imran Shehzad and Farhan Mirza. He received 50,000 rupees as prize money, while Kamran received 25,000 rupees.
The semi-finalists also each brought 15,000 rupees and the quarter-finalists each pursued 5,000 rupees. On Thursday (today) the U18 national championship starts with the best junior players of the countries in the same place.
