Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the upcoming two-matches Test series against New Zealand due to a recovery from a back injury. Earlier, he was also out of the India A team’s tour of New Zealand. He underwent a back injury operation in London in October last year. Pandya will continue the recovery process at the National Cricket Academy(NCA) in Bengaluru.
In December last year, Pandya told IANS: “It was compulsory for me to undergo back surgery in view of the upcoming schedule. This included the tour of New Zealand, the IPL and the T20 World Cup.” Pandya was also selected in the India A team on the tour of New Zealand but was not sent there due to a complete recovery.
This all-rounder has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for some time now. Pandya, who was out of the series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, was expected to play on the New Zealand tour but it did not happen. Now it will take some more time for them to recover.
The Indian team will play a two-matches Test series against New Zealand. The series will be played under the ICC Test Championship. The first Test match will be played in Wellington on 21 February. The second match will be in Christchurch. Currently, both teams are busy playing T20 series in limited-overs cricket. There will also be an ODI series after this. The name of the other player in place of Pandya has not been announced at the moment.
