The remaining games for the T20 World Championship of ICC Women in Australia next year have been confirmed. Bangladesh and Thailand qualify for the 10-team tournament from 21 February to 8 March 2020.

By winning the global qualifier in Scotland, Bangladesh joins Group A with the right to take on hosts and defending champion Australia, as well as India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Thailand, which only played its first international match for women 12 years ago, made history when it qualified for its first major global cricket event (read more about the rise of Thai cricket here). They take the last place in Group B, where they will face England, South Africa, the West Indies and Pakistan.

The match between Australia and Bangladesh will take place on Thursday, February 27 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Thailand’s first game of the event is scheduled for Saturday, February 22 at the WACA site in Perth, where in 2016 it will be dealing with the West Indies Champions.

Bangladesh and Thailand are traveling to Australia after qualifying for the qualifier. Bangladesh won the final on Sunday morning (Australian time) with 70 runs. The top 8 teams, based on the final rankings of the last ICC T20 World Championship in the West Indies in 2018, have automatically qualified. The games were announced in January this year.

Australia will open the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 against India at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Friday, February 21st.

The finale will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2020, International Women’s Day, at the world’s largest cricket stadium, the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This offers the opportunity to set a world record for the highest participation in a women’s sports event.

Later this year, 16 teams will compete in the ICC Men’s T20 World Championship 2020 from 18 October to 15 November. Australia will contest its first game of the tournament in the legendary SCG against the world’s best team, Pakistan, on Saturday, October 24.

Nick Hockley, CEO of the T20 2020 ICC Organizing Committee, said: “We are pleased to welcome Bangladesh and Thailand to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.

“We know that both teams of fans living here in Australia and visitors from all over the world will receive fantastic support.”
