Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the T20I and ODI series in New Zealand due to a shoulder injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia. Sanju Samson has been included in the five-match T20 series in place of Dhawan, while Prithvi Shaw has been included in the Indian team for the subsequent three ODIs.
The left-handed opener was injured while fielding against Australia during the third ODI in Bengaluru on Sunday. His left shoulder hurt. “His shoulder MRI was done which confirmed the grade two injury to his shoulder,” the BCCI said in the statement. His hand will be bandaged and he has been advised to take some time off. He will begin rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in the first week of February.
“The All India Senior Selection Committee has included Sanju Samson for the T20I series in place of Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw for the ODI series,” it added. Dhawan didn’t start the innings against Australia in the last ODI. KL Rahul started the innings with Rohit Sharma in his place. Earlier, during the second ODI batting, Pat Cummins had a bouncer on his ribs. He also opted out of the limited-overs series against the West Indies last month. He was also ruled out of the 2019 World Cup due to a fractured thumb.
He scored 96 and 74 in the first two matches of the recently concluded series against Australia.
