The MCA Stadium has hosted India’s only home defeat in over six years, and South Africa hopes a piece of history will be in its favor when it comes to stopping the Indian juggernaut in the second test, which begins on October 10.
Since the beginning of 2013, India has won 24 of its 30 home tests and only lost one. This home record of superlatives was an important factor in advancing to the top of the MRF Tires ICC Test Ranking. And if their performance in the first test against South Africa was an indicator, it does not seem that their hegemony is about to end.
They were excellent in all divisions and will be particularly pleased to see Rohit Sharma mark his attempt to open the friendly with hundreds in each inning, while his co-opener Mayank Agarwal scored a double-ton. They laid the foundation for the team to extend its 100 percent victory record in the ICC World Test Championship. India is currently in the lead with 160 points.
The Indian bowlers were also fantastic and ended the match well over a free session on the final day, although two South African batsmen – Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock – scored hundreds in South Africa’s first innings. R Ashwin had seven wickets in the inning, while Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja shook things up in the last gate with nine wickets in between.
Pune is the venue for the Indian defeat by Australia in 2017, which has been home for over six years. This fact could probably only drive Virat Kohli and his men on to correct this aberration. South Africa will go to much more trouble after the first attempt to score 431 points in the final test, but bowlers, especially in the spin department, will expect much more accuracy and sharpness.
What were the results in the last test match between India vs Pakistan?
South Africa piled on 431 in response to India’s 502/7 declaration. Rohit’s fast century allowed India to defend 394 runs on the late fourth day. While the spin on the fifth day caused problems for the visitors, the rapid backswing of bowler Mohammed Shami caused chaos. South Africa will know that it can not afford to neglect the threat posed by India’s pacemaker when it comes to formulating strategies against spin.
Faf du Plessis, Said:
“It’s about how we manage to mentally end the last day we did not play well and make sure we’re ready to come back for the next one and get hungry to be a great performer. “
Virat Kohli, Said:
“Shami was consistently a hit in the second innings for us, and if you see all of his four-five-slip moves, they always come in the second innings when the team needs it, the ball turns that’s his strength. “
