OUT! Caught. Mitchell Starc to Adil Rashid. Length ball, outside off stump backing away driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to extra cover, by Stoinis. This time he hits it straight to extra cover and Starc wraps things up for Australia. The left-armers take nine wickets between them and they've ripped through England's batting lineup which has received so many plaudits lately. Australia become the first team to guarantee qualification for the knockout stages of the World Cup. For England that might seem some way off after back to back defeats. If Pakistan can beat New Zealand tomorrow then there will be some worried people in that England camp. Australia were too good for them today in all departments and deserve their victory. That's all from me here at Lord's, goodnight.

49.6
4
FOUR! Ben Stokes to Alex Carey. Slower ball back of a length, down leg side backing away cutting, past deep cover for 4 runs. Carey cracks that for four too after giving himself room and Australia finish with 285 from their 50 overs. Given Australia's opening stand and the fact that at one stage they were 173-1 they will have every right to be disappointed not to have posted a bigger total here. The wickets of Finch and Smith came at key times for England who took wickets at regular intervals in the second half of the innings. It shouldn't be forgotten though how tough batting was in the first hour and Australia's pace attack will pose England problems I'm sure, don't go anywhere.
49.4
4
FOUR! Ben Stokes to Alex Carey. Length ball, middle stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control past deep extra cover for 4 runs. Gets the front leg out of the way and lofts the ball over extra cover. Very good from Carey who is giving the Australian total a boost at the end here.

4
FOUR! Jofra Archer to Alex Carey. Slower ball half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed past deep cover for 4 runs. Pace off again from Archer and Carey times that drive beautifully, the ball leaving the bat much faster than it came onto it.

OUT! Caught. Chris Woakes to Pat Cummins. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to first slip, by Buttler. Edged and well-taken by Buttler diving forwards and to his right. Cummins has not done as well with the bat this tournament as he would have liked. Woakes picks up another wicket as England continue to stifle the Australian middle order.

OUT! Caught. Chris Woakes to Steven Smith. Slower length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to mid on, by Archer. That was a very strange looking shot from Smith. It was another off pace delivery. Someone like Maxwell might have had the power to launch that ball into the stands. I think Smith was trying to hit the ball more over mid-wicket but he completely mis-timed his shot and offered Archer an easy catch coming in from long on. Another key wicket at a key time for England.

FOUR! Chris Woakes to Steven Smith. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, well timed past deep mid wicket for 4 runs. That's a good shot, hit hard by Smith and that will be an important boundary.

W
OUT! Run Out. Adil Rashid to Steven Smith. Leg spinner half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, to deep extra cover for 1 run, fielded by Bairstow, fielded by Rashid, by Buttler. Stoinis is run out, both Australian batsmen are at the same end and Buttler casually takes off the bails after Rashid throws him the ball. Smith had called initially for two but shouted no when he saw Bairstow get to the ball quickly. For some reason Stoinis didn't respond to the second call and came charging back towards Steve Smith leaving Rashid the simple task of throwing the ball down the other end.
41.4
4
FOUR! Adil Rashid to Steven Smith. Leg spinner short, off stump on the back foot pulling, in the air under control for 4 runs. A real drag down from Rashid and Smith had all the time in the world to pick his spot and hit that to the boundary.

FOUR! Mark Wood to Marcus Stoinis. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed past deep extra cover for 4 runs. Firmly struck and that will go for four, beating the dive of Chris Woakes on the shorter side of the ground.

W
OUT! Caught. Mark Wood to Glenn Maxwell. Short, outside off stump on the back foot Steer, bottom edge in the air uncontrolled to wicketkeeper, by Buttler. There's a feather on that and Maxwell is gone. This is turning out to be a good period for England with the two fast bowlers back into the attack. Maxwell was trying to run the ball over the top off the back foot and the ball brushed the bottom edge on its way through to Buttler.

4
FOUR! Mark Wood to Steven Smith. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot Steer, well timed past third man for 4 runs. Two boundaries in as many balls, lovely touch this time from Smith as he runs it beyond Buttler and the pace of Wood takes the ball to the boundary.

W
OUT! Caught. Jofra Archer to Aaron Finch. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled to fine leg, by Woakes. This is going to be out. Immediately after going to three figures Finch has played a loose shot. He was taking the pull shot on but up it went towards Woakes who had just made a mess of the previous delivery. He makes no mistake this time taking a comfortable catch and Finch is furious with himself.
In over# 33
Runs : 0 Bowler: Ben Stokes Wickets : 1
32.2
W
OUT! Bowled. Ben Stokes to Usman Khawaja. Length ball, to leg on the front foot flick, missed to. Khawaja tries to whip the ball legside but it wasn't quite full enough. He ends up playing around the ball and it continues on its original path and crashes into middle and off stump. Stokes enjoyed that one. A few boos around Lord's, it must be Steve Smith on his way out to the middle.

FOUR! Adil Rashid to Aaron Finch. Leg spinner half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed past deep cover for 4 runs. Lovely use of the hands from Finch as he opens himself up allowing him to hit the gap in the offside, he moves into the 90s.

4
FOUR! Moeen Ali to Aaron Finch. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge in the air uncontrolled past third man for 4 runs. Edged but there's no slip and the ball scoots away across the turf and Adil Rashid can't catch up with it.

W
OUT! Caught. Moeen Ali to David Warner. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the back foot pushing, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to point, by Root. David Warner has got that all wrong and he's chipped the ball up to point where Root just about holds onto the catch on the run. Warner seemed surprised by the way the ball reacted off the pitch. Maybe it stuck in the pitch slightly but it didn't appear to mis-behave dramatically. Anyway it did for Warner and England pick up a much-needed wicket.

FOUR! Chris Woakes to Aaron Finch. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, in the air under control past long off for 4 runs. That's not a bad ball from Woakes but Finch has hit it straight again. It was in the air for a while, if that ball had moved off the pitch Finch might have been in trouble.

FOUR! Chris Woakes to Aaron Finch. Out-swinging length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge in the air uncontrolled past third man for 4 runs. OUT!

That's a great comeback from Behrendorff and Moeen is walking, he's nicked it and is on his way. FOUR! Pat Cummins to Chris Woakes. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, past deep mid wicket for 4 runs. That will go for four too, running away quickly down the slope, this bowling change has proved expensive.

FOUR! Pat Cummins to Ben Stokes. Back of a length, down leg side down the track driving, well timed past deep extra cover for 4 runs. Well Stokes is taking the attack to Cummins here, that's four boundaries they've hit from his two overs in this spell.

FOUR! Pat Cummins to Ben Stokes. Back of a length, outside off stump down the track driving, well timed past deep cover for 4 runs. Uses the feet again and Stokes crunches that through the covers. England need to see plenty more boundaries from that bat if they're going to chase these down.

FOUR! Pat Cummins to Ben Stokes. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, past long on for 4 runs. Stokes gets on top of that well and finds the gap to earn England their second boundary of the over.

FOUR! Pat Cummins to Chris Woakes. Half volley, off stump on the front foot flick, well timed past long on for 4 runs. That's a half volley and it's tucked away really nicely by Woakes. He can bat, earlier in the tournament he came out at number three when England lost Jason Roy to injury.

OUT! Caught. Marcus Stoinis to Jos Buttler. Back of a length, outside off stump on the front foot pulling, in the air uncontrolled to deep square leg, by Khawaja. Cries of catch and Usman Khawaja does just that in the deep, keeping his feet just inside the boundary as he does so. That's a huge wicket for Australia, Buttler and Stokes was a dangerous partnership. England will struggle to chase this total from here.

FOUR! Marcus Stoinis to Jos Buttler. Length ball, outside off stump down the track driving, well timed past long on for 4 runs. A little shuffle of the feet and Buttler drills the ball back down the ground. There's a slight delay here now as Stokes receives some treatment for some tightness in his calves.

FOUR! Nathan Lyon to Ben Stokes. Off break length ball, off stump on the front foot pushing, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled past long on for 4 runs. Nicely bowled by Lyon, he deceived Stokes in the flight. Stokes played too early and chipped the ball just over the bowler's head. Finch came running in but mis-judged it and then when the ball reached the advertising mats it ran away from the Aussie skipper and somehow went for four.

FOUR! Marcus Stoinis to Ben Stokes. Length ball, to leg down the track driving, in the air under control past long on for 4 runs. Stokes has used his feet well this innings to try and hit the bowlers off their lengths. This time he lofts the ball over mid-on for a one bounce four.

FOUR! Pat Cummins to Ben Stokes. Back of a length, outside off stump down the track pulling, well timed past deep mid wicket for 4 runs. Stokes has absolutely hammered that, the ball moving from bat to boundary in the blink of an eye.

OUT! Caught. Jason Behrendorff to Jonny Bairstow. Short, to leg on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Cummins. That's going to be out, an easy catch for Cummins out there in the deep. Bairstow was trying to pull that ball from well outside off stump, it's a harder shot against the left-armer with the angle going across. That mistake has cost him and Australia have their fourth wicket.

FOUR! Jason Behrendorff to Ben Stokes. Length ball, outside off stump down the track driving, well timed past deep extra cover for 4 runs. Stokes gets off the mark by dancing down the wicket and driving powerfully through the covers, top shot. It's all dot balls and boundaries at the moment for England.

FOUR! Jason Behrendorff to Jonny Bairstow. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled past long off for 4 runs. Well that could easily have been the fourth wicket. Bairstow completely mis-hit that and if Finch had been hugging the circle rather than in close stopping the single he would have had an easy catch.

OUT! Caught. Mitchell Starc to Eoin Morgan. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled to fine leg, by Cummins. The short ball does for Morgan. You did feel like it would be a tough test for him coming out so early against the Australian quicks. Starc went into the body and cramped the England captain as he tried to pull. The ball came off near the shoulder of the bat and went high in the air towards fine leg where Cummins pouched the catch Australian style. England are in all sorts of trouble now.

OUT! L.B.W. Mitchell Starc to Joe Root. In-swinging length ball, middle stump on the front foot driving, hit pad to. That's out, that's absolutely plumb and that's a massive wicket for Australia. Joe Root is gone and England are reeling at 15-2. Eoin Morgan comes out to face two quick bowlers with two new balls who are getting some real movement. It was full and quick fom Starc. Root looked on edge, he was beaten for pace a couple of balls ago and combined with the swing on that delivery he had no chance.

FOUR! Jason Behrendorff to Joe Root. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, well timed in the air under control past deep point for 4 runs. Cut away in the air just out of reach of Glenn Maxwell, you don't want to give him an opportunity to catch the ball.

OUT! Bowled. Jason Behrendorff to James Vince. In-swinging length ball, middle stump on the front foot driving, hit pad to. What a start for Australia. Behrendorff bowls a peach of a delivery with just his second ball. The first ball just held its line with no real swing to speak of. This delivery swung and it swung late. Vince was looking to drive but could do nothing once the ball started veering back in towards middle stump. Perfect start for Australia, Joe Root comes out to the middle in the first over.
