Jack Leach to Pat Cummins. Stock ball half volley, to leg on the front foot defending, hit pad to leg gully for no runs, fielded by Archer. Aleem Dar brings this enthralling rain affected Test to an end, and it finishes a draw. The game hung in the balance at the start of today's play but after a superb 115* from Ben Stokes it was England's to try and win. Two early wickets from Archer got them off to a great start but the substitute for Smith, Labuschagne showed great resilience early on and grew in confidence throughout the session. Labuschagne along with Head helped steady the ship for Australia, however the dismissal of Labuschagne gave England hope. In the end though there weren't enough overs for England to finish the job and they finished 4 wickets short of victory. The series remains 1-0 to Australia but after this Test it's clear to see the series is far from over.

OUT! Caught. Nathan Lyon to Jonny Bairstow. Off break length ball, down leg side on the front foot slog sweeping, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep square leg, by Khawaja. Bairstow takes on the legside boundary but doesn't hit it well. Khawaja has plenty of time to get underneath the ball and he takes a simple catch. Some quick runs from Bairstow would have been very welcome for England but as it is they are all out on the first day's play for 258 having been put into bat by Australia. Hazlewood and Cummins were excellent for Australia and Lyon picked up three wickets too on a pitch that did offer him some early assistance. England will be desperate to pick up a few wickets with an hour still to play and if they can they might even finish the day in a good position.

OUT! Bowled. Nathan Lyon to Stuart Broad. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, inside edge to. That one carries straight on from Lyon and has bowled Broad, the leg bail has been removed. Looking at the replay it came off the inside edge and just kissed the top corner of leg stump with enough force to remove the bail. Bairstow might look to play a few shots now.

OUT! Caught. Pat Cummins to Jofra Archer. Short, outside off stump on the back foot flick, leading edge in the air uncontrolled to fourth slip, by Khawaja. More short stuff from Cummins and it does the trick again. Archer was looking to flick the ball towards square leg as he has done on a couple of occasions but closed the face too early this time and the leading edge flew up in the air. Khawaja did very well in the end running back from gully to take the ball over his shoulder. Here comes Broad, I doubt the short stuff is about to stop anytime soon.

OUT! Caught. Pat Cummins to Chris Woakes. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, Gloved in the air uncontrolled to wicketkeeper, by Paine. This time he's gone. Well that had been coming. It wasn't the best ball Cummins has delivered this over but it flicked the glove down the legside and Woakes has to go despite his review, a clear spike on UltraEdge sealing his fate.

SIX! Pat Cummins to Chris Woakes. Short, outside off stump on the back foot hooking, top edge in the air uncontrolled over fine leg for 6 runs. Time for some short stuff from the big man with two men back and a short leg in place. Woakes connects with his hook shot this time but not with the middle of the bat. It's off the top edge and flies over Paine's head and goes all the way for six. I don't think that will put Australia off this tactic though.

W
OUT! L.B.W. Nathan Lyon to Ben Stokes. Off break length ball, off stump on the front foot sweeping, hit pad to. That has got to be out, up goes the finger and Stokes is gone, no point reviewing that. Stokes was trying to play a paddle sweep this time rather than the full-blooded one and falls trying to be too cute. It looked like a pre-meditated shot but that ball pitched on off and was hitting middle and leg. Australia right in the driving seat here at Lord's.

W
OUT! Caught. Peter Siddle to Jos Buttler. Seaming away back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot defending, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to wicketkeeper, by Paine. That's a nick and Siddle finally has a well-deserved wicket. He's bowled well today after a rather dodgy opening over and this time Tim Paine holds on behind the stumps. A tentative shot from Buttler who looked unsure whether to be forward or back and unsure whether to play or leave. He got a little tickle and England are in trouble.

W
OUT! Caught. Pat Cummins to Rory Burns. Short, down leg side on the back foot working, Spliced in the air uncontrolled to short leg, by Bancroft. That is a fantastic catch by Cameron Bancroft. They say this man is brilliant at short leg and that is why. The ball came high off the bat but wasn't in the air that long. Bancroft was at full stretch diving to his left and just about got a hand to the ball but it popped out again. Somehow he managed to catch the ball up again as it fell towards the turf and got his hand back underneath it, grasping the ball in his fingertips.

W
OUT! Caught. Josh Hazlewood to Joe Denly. Seaming away length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to wicketkeeper, by Paine. That is a peach of a delivery from Hazlewood and it's taken the outside edge of Denly's bat. The seam position was perfect, the ball pitching and deviating away from the right-hander just the right amount. There was just a sense that a wicket was coming with these two fast bowlers testing Denly on both the front and back foot since the lunch break.

OUT! L.B.W. Josh Hazlewood to Joe Root. Seaming in length ball, outside off stump on the back foot defending, hit pad to. That looks close, and given. Well that ball nipped back and kept a bit low too, catching Root on the crease. He's been playing a lot from the back foot and it's cost him this time. Brilliant bowling from Hazlewood who is seaming the ball around and beating both sides of the bat. Smashing into leg stump on Hawk-Eye, great start for the Aussies.

OUT! Caught. Josh Hazlewood to Jason Roy. Seaming away back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pushing, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to wicketkeeper, by Paine. He hasn't missed that one, off the outside edge and Hazlewood is into the game straight away. Similar to the last delivery, back of a length and leaving the right-hander down the slope and this time Roy's hands felt for the ball. There was a healthy edge and Tim Paine did the rest, great start for Australia.

W
OUT! Caught. Stuart Broad to Pat Cummins. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, Gloved to wicketkeeper, by Bairstow. Gloved down the leg side. Easy take from Bairstow to clean up the Australian innings as they are all out for 250, giving England a lead of eight runs.A very eventful session with plenty of hostile bowling from Archer and nearly a serious injury to Steve Smith. Luckily he was fine to come out later on and his knock of 92 was once again instrumental in his side getting such a score.Still enough movement for the bowlers with the new ball in hand so the first hour or so after tea is going to be tricky. We should be in for a fun evening session.

OUT! L.B.W. Jack Leach to Nathan Lyon. Stock length ball, middle stump on the front foot defending, hit pad to. Plumb. Press forward but can't connect and the pad takes the impact. OUT! L.B.W. Chris Woakes to Steven Smith. In-swinging length ball, outside off stump no foot movement Leave, hit pad to. Beaten by late swing back into the pads. Smith isn't expecting the ball to come back into him and leaves on line. That is when the ball hoops in and smacks into the pads. Review asked for but Smith knows he is out. Great knock and terrific character to come back out after his blow.

OUT! Caught. Chris Woakes to Peter Siddle. Seaming away length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Bairstow. On the money. OUT! Caught. Jofra Archer to Tim Paine. Seaming in length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, bat-pad in the air uncontrolled to short leg, by Buttler. Big forward press but undone by the movement off the surface. Once the ball does anything at this pace it is so hard to change the shot. Inside edge onto the pad and Buttler did the rest at short leg. Exactly the type of start England wanted.

OUT! Caught. Stuart Broad to Matthew Wade. Seaming away length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge to fourth slip, by Burns. Broad strikes. OUT! L.B.W. Stuart Broad to Travis Head. Length ball, outside off stump on the back foot defending, hit pad to. That is out, absolutely plumb but Aleem Dar shakes his head! Surely that was out, Broad can't believe it. A good length ball from round the wicket and Head for some reason went back instead of forward and the ball thumped into the pads. England review straight away. There's no bat, maybe Aleem Dar thought there had been, the ball did hit both pads. It's hitting the middle of middle and Head is gone.

OUT! Caught. Chris Woakes to Usman Khawaja. Seaming away length ball, middle stump on the front foot defending, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to wicketkeeper, by Bairstow. Edged and gone. Khawaja had been looking good out there but Woakes has finally got him to play at one angling across him. It was a fuller delivery, that was the key. Khawaja plays from the crease and his footwork didn't get him close enough to the pitch of the ball. The was a nick and Bairstow did the rest. Two wickets in quick succession for England in slightly drizzly conditions.

OUT! L.B.W. Jofra Archer to Cameron Bancroft. Seaming in length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, hit pad to. That's nipped back a long way and strikes Bancroft on the pad. Aleem Dar nods his head and raises his finger and Jofra Archer has his first wicket in Test cricket. Or does he? Bancroft is going to review. There have been plenty that have been too high but this one did look like it was hitting the stumps. It's nipped back miles, beaten the inside edge and struck Bancroft in line. It's hitting the bails and Archer has the breakthrough.

Another start but nothing of substance to show for it. Denly was looking in good knick before he chipped the ball back to Siddle in his follow-through. Possibly through the shot a fraction too early which caused the shot to go in the air. Work for the middle-order to do.

OUT! Caught. Pat Cummins to Joe Root. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot defending, outside edge to wicketkeeper, by Paine. Two in two. Cummins is on fire right now. The England captain has to go for a golden duck, feathering an edge through the Paine. He didn't seem confident getting onto the front foot and was late in getting out to the pitch. Australia can sense something happening right now. Cummins ready to run in on a hat-trick.

OUT! Caught & Bowled. Pat Cummins to Jason Roy. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot flick, leading edge in the air uncontrolled back to bowler, by Cummins. Not a Test match to remember for Jason Roy. A second single figure score in a row and both will disappoint him. Simply looking to turn the ball into the leg side but getting through the shot too early and chipping a catch into the air. Good catch from Cummins who had to do a full 360 degree and take the ball over his shoulder.

OUT! Caught. Jofra Archer to Tim Paine. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, in the air uncontrolled to mid wicket, by Denly. What an unbelievable catch by Denly. Archer bangs one in again and Paine decides to pull this time, he didn't get all of the shot but it looked good enough to beat the infield. However Denly threw himself to his left and took a screamer of a one handed catch
