Muhammad Abid will face Heera Ashiq in the final of the Servaid Punjab Open Tennis Championship 2019, as both top names have won their respective semi-finals at PLTA on Friday.
The first semi-final of the men’s singles turned out to be a one-sided affair as M Abid overwhelmed the young Ahmad Kamil in straight sets. Abid was on the way to flying start as he put his opponent under enormous pressure and did not allow him to score even one point in the first set and win the match 6-0.
Although Abid made little resistance in the second set, Abid edged out 6: 3 to claim a small win and also booked a good spot in the final.
Experienced activist Heera Ashiq had to fight hard to beat the spirited Ahmad Babar 6-3, 6-2. Both players had started a fire in the first set, but Heera took advantage of his great experience and started playing an aggressive game, which helped him win the set 6-3.
Heera continued to pressure Ahmad Babar as he won the set 6-2 to secure the win and set the final against M Abid.
In the Senior 35 plus doubles first-semifinal, Talha Waheed / Major Adnan battled well against Mehboob / Adeel, overtaking them 6-4, 6-4, while in the second semi-final, Fayyaz / Ashir, the title holders of recent seniors 35 plus doubles, were played at the same venue and overpowered the couple. Saeed and Rana Nadeem with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
In the U-18 semi-final, Abdullah Adnan beat Zain Ch, while in the U-16 semi-final, Iman Arif beat Eshtesham Arif 6-4, 6-3, while in the U-14 semi-final, Bilal Asim beat Ehtesham Arif 8-1 U-12 Haider Ali Rizwan defeated Aized Khalil 8-0, Asad defeated Ali Zain 8-7, Asfandyar defeated Sarim Rasul 8-3 and Husnain Ali Rizwan beat Abu Bakar Talha 8-5.
PLTA secretary and former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik said the men’s singles final will start at 14.15, along with the final of other categories. Servaid’s Haroon Sheikh will be the main guest for the final day, while PLTA secretary Rashid Malik and Pakistani tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi will be present as well as players, families and tennis enthusiasts.
