The International Day of Sports for Development and Peace (IDSDP) was celebrated on Monday in Pakistan by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) in recognition of the first Modern Olympiad of 1896.
The goal of the IOC-led Olympic Movement is to promote peace around the world through athletes. This day pays homage to the founders of the Olympic Movement, who believed in the power of sport as an instrument of friendship and harmony.
Over the past century, the Olympic Movement has become a global phenomenon that connects people from different cultures to use equality, tolerance and non-discrimination on the platform of the Olympic Games.
The Day is a tribute to the United Nations Olympic Games and Sports, bringing together athletes, officials and sports leaders on a single platform to celebrate the sport.
