The 65th National Nur Khan Hockey Championship, scheduled for April 20 at the Pakistani Hockey Club in Karachi, is likely to be postponed.
A well-placed source in the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has confirmed to The News that the event is likely to be postponed due to requests from some of its leading departments to allow more time to prepare for the tournament.
“We received some requests from the leading departments to postpone the event because they say they need more time to prepare the teams for the first national event. Considering these demands, we are seriously considering the postponement of the championship, “one of the PHF officials said when contacted.
In addition to the leading departments, four provincial teams were also drawn in the competition.
“We are discussing the new date of the championship, which is now most likely to be organized according to Eid,” he said.
The official felt that the championship always aroused the talent of the national teams and that the teams would have the right time to prepare their outfits.
“With the country’s best harvest expected to attend the event, we expect all provinces and regions, after thorough preparation, to provide the best and most competitive outfits. I hope the best hockey is in the mega-competition, “said the official.
