Pakistan played warm-up games within the squad, with Sohail Khan in particular using the games to advance his case for selection in the first test on August 5. He won 5/50, including the gates of Abid Ali and Sarfaraz Ahmed, in the first game before winning 5/37 in a second low-score game when he removed the top three from Shan Masood, Abid Ali and Captain Azhar Ali for individual figures.

Keeper Mohammad Rizwan demonstrated his form with the bat during the first warm-up game, scoring an unbeaten hundred to push his case over that of former captain Sarfaraz.
