Nepal vs Qatar | Qualification match for T20I Cricket World Cup 2020
The second day of the tournament kicked off with the duel of the Nepal Regional Power Parade against Qatar, which needed a win after losing to Singapore on Monday to sustain their hopes for qualifying. Nepal was elected a bat. Paras Khadka (28) and Gyanendra Malla (23) put on a composed 49 for the first wicket.
Just as Nepal was threatening to disengage and accelerate, Qatar’s Inam-ul-Haq Khadka removed to make sure her momentum stagnated. Three Nepal players started but no one could strike, and as a result they were shot for 122 in 19.2 overs. Iqbal Hussain was the outstanding bowler who scored with 3/21, while Qatar captain Tamoor Sajjad supported him well with 2/14.
Nepal’s bowlers fight a tough fight. Her skills, coupled with the chaotic running of the batsmen in Qatar, made the game swing like a pendulum. Nepal, which was strengthened by the fans present, survived the match until the end. Their star leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane forced the issue with 3/33 in his four overs, deftly assisted by B Regmi, whose four overs made just 14 runs.
Inam-ul-Haq scored 41 out of 32 points all the time to make sure Qatar’s innings were well on track right into the chase. His slip-up, courtesy of DS Airee, caused a brief hiccup, and their problems got even worse as Airee showed another brilliant slip six bucks later to remove Captain Sajjad.
But Mohammed Rizlan and Nouman Sawar stayed cool to make sure Qatar reached the finish without further ado.
