MS Dhoni may Retire from ODI: Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri has indicated that veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni may announce his retirement from One Day International cricket soon. MS Dhoni, who retired from Test cricket in 2014, was part of the Indian team in consecutive short formats, but after the semi-finals of the World Cup 2019, he has not played a single international match.
On the other hand, the speculation of the retirement of the former captain of Indian cricket team MS Dhoni has been made even more sensational by head coach Ravi Shastri. The reason behind this is also because the Indian team have at least 3 wicketkeeper batsmen ready, who can play in the 2023 ODI World Cup. At the same time, captain MS Dhoni will be 42 years old by 2023. In such a situation, the Indian selectors are not considering his future. This is the reason why Ravi Shastri has indicated about Dhoni retiring from ODI cricket.
Ravi Shastri told CNN News18 that former Indian captain Dhoni may soon say goodbye to his ODI career. However, Ravi Shastri has also hinted in this conversation that MS Dhoni can continue in T20 cricket and he could also be a part of the T20 World Cup in Australia this year.
Shastri has said that Dhoni had been playing in all three formats of cricket for a long time and then suddenly retired from Test cricket. This is the reason why he can now quit ODI International Cricket as well. After this, at this age (38 years), Dhoni would like to play only T20 cricket. However, for this, he will have to start playing again.
Will IPL surpass Dhoni’s fleet?
Ravi Shastri had earlier said that whether MS Dhoni will be able to play T20 International cricket for the country, its decision will be decided in the upcoming IPL. If Mahendra Singh Dhoni performs well in IPL and the young wicketkeeper-batsman does poorly then Mahi’s T20 career will be alive and he can play in T20 World Cup 2020. Shastri also said that Dhoni would never want to impose himself on the team, as he is a big player.
