India’s leading men’s singles players B Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy performed brilliantly to advance to the second round of the BWF Badminton World Championship-2019. Praneeth, seeded 16th in the tournament, defeated Jason Anthony Ho-Shui of Canada in the first round, while Prannoy defeated Finland’s Eetu Heino.
Praneeth defeated the 66th ranked Anthony 21–17 21–16 in a 39-minute match. This was the first match between the two. World number 30 Prannoy defeated Etu Heno 17-21 21-10 21-11 in 59 minutes. Etu’s current world ranking is 93.
Earlier, India’s pair of Meghna Jakkampudi and S. Ram Poorvisha won the first round of the women’s doubles category. The Indian pair defeated Guatemala’s Corletto Soto Dianna and Sotomayor Nikite Alexandre.
Indian women won the match 21-10, 21-18 in 28 minutes. In the second round, the pair will take on the Japanese pair of Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto. The Japanese pair got a bye in the first round.
