The director general of Sports Punjab, Nadeem Sarwar, said the board will lay 14 new Astro turfs in Punjab to help national hockey regain its lost fame.
“Sport is as important as education because it keeps athletes healthy, strong and disciplined. Sports Board Punjab has given the athletes the best possible support and created more and better opportunities for players to better show their abilities and stand out at a higher level.
Laying 14 new astro turfs across the province is another positive move by the SBP towards sports in general and hockey in particular, “said Nadeem Sarwar at the annual Minhaj ul Quran University Sports Festival, where he was the main guest.
Raja Yasir Humayun Provincial Higher Education Minister, Minhaj ul Quran University Deputy Chairman, Hussain Mohayuddin, ICC elite referee Aleem Dar, test cricketer Muhammad Abbas, international wrestler Inam Butt, and director of Minjah University Sports Abdul Hafeez, as well as numerous students were present on the occasion. Previously, Sports Director-General Punjab Nadeem Sarwar was warmly welcomed by the director of Minjah University, Sport Abdul Hafeez, and the university’s students.
Nadeem Sarwar has said that Pakistan has dominated the world of hockey for many decades and has had the honor of winning a large number of Olympic gold medals, world championships and other prestigious trophies and tournaments. “Although we lack facilities of international standard, while the number of astro-turfs is far lower than in other countries, another major reason for the decline of Pakistani ice hockey is the lack of passion and dedication of the hockey players who have no such goal to have used our stickmen.
Even then, we try to give our teens and players maximum opportunities, and we hope they will work and practice hard, and try to help the country recover past hockey costumes.
“In the modern age, it’s too difficult to get the kids on the outdoor grounds because they’re dealing with gadgets. But it is also our duty to involve the parents in healthy sports activities, because this is the only way we can put our youth on the right path and make them future stars, so that they can win laurels for the country on an international level.
In Lahore and surrounding area, we are building around 23 new plants with modern facilities. Some of them have already been completed while work on the remaining projects is under way. At the moment, there are 12 Astro turfs in Punjab, and this year will see the creation of 14 new Astro turfs, “he added.
He appropriately praised the management of Minhaj University for conducting the annual sports festival and also applauded the passion of the students who participated with great zeal and zeal in various games and events.
In the end, the general director Sport Punjab Nadeem Sarwar distributed the prizes among the winners.
