Some Important Questions Before Announcement of West Indies World Cup Squad

In a number of global T20 players selected for World Cup selection, the West Indies’ selection must make some tough calls. We list some of the key questions they need to answer when naming their 15.

Chris Gayle, the seasoned opener, has been in extraordinary shape in a one-day international cricket season. He beat two centuries and two fifties out of four innings against England in the last series of West Indies. He has taken the form into the IPL and it is guaranteed that a place of West Indies, the XI.

His partner in the series against England was the debutant John Campbell, who was promising, but could not build. West Indies will also have the option of Evin Lewis, who has a reasonable ODI record, but has not played any ODI since July 2018.

Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard are two groundbreaking allrounders available to West Indies. Both were in great shape in the Indian Premier League and voters will be tempted to win them for the World Cup. Both bring a similar offer with the racket to the table, but Russell has recently become a better bowler.

Darren Bravo is distinguished in a hitting team with drummers as a more conventional running battery. On the one hand, he can give stability to the explosive order, but some may argue that his style does not do justice to the huge demands of English surfaces.

Shai Hope has recently performed wicket duties for the West Indies. During a long tournament, West Indies may want to back up to Nicholas Pooran, even though his numbers were not too impressive in ODI cricket. As several top-class players are available for the World Cup, the selectors will have something to think about before the goalkeeper.

Since the World Cup 2015 spinners dominate the bowling division. Four of the six leading wicket takers since then are spinners. West Indian spinners, however, have not fully paid the trend. Ashley Nurse was the most successful spinner with 42 wickets from 45 games with 43.26. Although he does not have big numbers, he also seems to be a certainty for the team. But Windies might want to have at least another spinner in the squad.
