The US defeated France 3-2 in the last 16 of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. It is the third time in a row that the U-20s have reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
After a costly mistake by French goalkeeper Alban Lafont, Justin Rennicks scored a rebound in the 83rd minute. Lafont could not hold on to a long shot from Sergino Dest in the USA and Rennicks never gave up the game and could end the rebound.
The United States were thrown out of the game 16-7 for most of the game, holding only 42 percent of the game, but were able to seize their chances.

Sebastian Soto, member of the Bundesliga club Hannover 96, scored in the 74th minute after a great pass from Tim Weah to make it 2-0 for the USA. It was the second time that Soto scored two goals in one match in this tournament, making him the first player to perform this feat.
The US will be playing quarter-final against Ecuador on June 8 at 11:30 am and streaming via fuboTV (free trial). Ecuador finished third in Group B, but defeated Uruguay 3-1 in the second round. The Americans only won a quarter-final in 1989 when they finished fourth.
