When And Where This Match Will Place?

The first test will take place at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua
22 August, 9:30 am local time. This is the first test match of both teams since ICC World Test Championship started.

Notwithstanding the poor results of the one-day internationals and the 20 caps, the West Indies will go into the first test with a sense of confidence that will come from beating England at home earlier this year.

Crucial to the hosts’ chances is captain Jason Holder, who was recently named Test Player of the Year for Men at the annual Cricket West Indies Awards. Since January 2018, the Allrounder has collected 565 runs at 51.36 and 40 wickets at 13.35. Holder will continue to set the benchmark for his players, not only in the tests against India, but throughout the WTC run.

India, on the other hand, will build on experience to launch its campaign. No. 1 in the ranking of ICC MRF tire test teams. They will try to strengthen their position at the top of the rankings. Virat Kohli, who has Steve Smith on the hit list, will also be interested in keeping the distance between himself and his rivals for first place. The Indian skipper scored a double hundred in Antigua in 2016.

Test specialists such as Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ravi Ashwin will be on the international racetrack after more than seven months. India played its only test this year in January – the last of four tests in Australia.

While Pujara was named player of the series when India won its first Down Under series, Rahane’s form was on the decline. The last century of the Indian Vice Captain came in August 2017, and with Rohit Sharma in the flanks, Rahane will be interested in remedying it.

Ashwin, the off-spinner, is unlikely to return to Sir Viv Richards Stadium. He collected seven wickets in an inning, scoring a century in 2016 as well.

While there is no rain forecast for every five days, partial cloud cover is expected for most of the test. This could support the pace attacks on both sides, especially on the hard field of the first days. Fast bowlers have conquered most of the test wickets on this surface in the past, with Roach, Holder and Shannon Gabriel at the top of the charts. But there is also often support for spinners, as Ashwins fabulous performance shows there in 2016.
