A partnership with 48 of 21 balls between Keemo Paul and Chris Green as the seventh-ranker proved crucial as the runner-up of 2018, Guyana Amazon Warriors, made a successful start to the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) campaign against St. Lucia Zouks achieved.
The Warriors had fought in the 16th to 98/6, and their momentum seemed to come back every time they seemed to get back on the track before the two rounder went to work to be slowed down by an outdated wicket and set the mood in the To change innings.
Green then added two wickets – including the deciding one from Rahkeem Cornwall – to achieve a good all-around display, while Shadab Khan, the gun moth, took 3/16 off his four overs and Romario Shepherd 2/18 as the Warriors 13 lost winners.

Cornwall, who made his West Indies Test debut last week, had threatened to break all the good work of Paul and Green in a brutal attack on the new ball. The all-rounder had plundered 36 of just 13 balls, including six over long legs wedged between two fours to greet Ben Laughlin in full attack.
At the time, Green had already taken care of Andre McCarthy, Paul took the catch in the middle as Guyanas hitters in the field, and Shadab had dismissed the dangerous Andre Fletcher in his first overtaking maneuver.
Cornwall’s quick start had put the Zouks way ahead of the odds, but they kept losing their doors whenever they seemed ready to take control of the persecution. Najibullah Zadran unfolded some conspicuous boundaries in his 23rd before sticking to Sherfane Rutherford near Shepherd, and Shadab had his second wicket when Christopher Barnwell lunged forward to be beaten and surprised.
This left the experienced all-rounder Thisara Perera and Daren Sammy together because the Zouks knew they had a long tail to protect and still needed more than 70 runs.
The first signs were promising: Sammy took a four and a six from the final of Green to cut his numbers, but the limits then dried up and the run rate began to rise.
When Sammy and Perera fell in successive overs, both of which were driven down by Shimron Hetmyer in front of Shadab and Shepherd, the game was opened for the Zouks. Krishmar Santokie brought the chase to life for a brief moment by taking Laughlin in his first two balls for ten runs, but the gates kept falling as the Zouks ran short.
In an inning in Guyana, most of which had rocked a ball, Paul launched three huge Hero Maximums and three fours in his 22-ball stint, with Green sending an Obed McCoy free-kick over Midwicket and adding two fours in the final Surrendering the Warriors over 150, you sacrifice yourself to a run-out looking for an impossible second run from the last ball of the innings to claim its name with 28 out of 15.
Until that partnership, it had been a frustrating stopover. Brandon King struck the first ball of the night from Perera for four, but added only three of eight more balls before he made an attempted legside-heave to Fletcher from Kesrick Williams.
Chandrapaul Hemraj set the tone for much to follow, and seemed to find his reach as he beat Santokie superbly over the deck for the first six days of the night, only to fall to the ground later, deceived by a cleverer, slower one Ball and get off to Perera at the long-off.
Hetmyer and Captain Shoaib Malik decided to rebuild the patient after losing both openers, but neither man could compete.
Hetmyer chose a deep cover against McCoy, and when Nicholas Pooran was thrown from the inside edge of the next ball, McCoy had a hat-trick and the Warriors were in trouble again.
Sherfane Rutherford survived the hat-trick ball and got some conspicuous limits before he lost too. He was beaten and overworked by Fawad Ahmed to give Fletcher the shortest windows of time. The goalkeeper was up to the task with a sharp piece of glove.
Malik went the same way, even though Fletcher had a much easier task this time as the Warriors skipper ran past one and had no hope of coming back.
Paul and Shadab were dismissed in the final over the innings in successive balls when McCoy scored a hat-trick for the second time that night, but by then the warriors had had enough.
