Cricket Ireland has selected a team similar to the one who won the Twenty20 International series in the Tri-nation at home for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers.
Ireland has also chosen almost the same squad for the T20I series in Oman, which serves as a dress rehearsal for the qualifiers. While the qualifier will be held in Dubai on 18 October, the Oman campaign will take place between 5 and 10 October.
Leg-spinner Jacob Mulder can not take part in the Oman series or the T20 World Cup qualifier due to injury, leaving the outside player Simi Singh to keep his place in the side. Most of the players traveling to Dubai will also travel to Oman, with the exception of David Delany, who is not eligible for selection. Barry McCarthy will take care of him.

Earlier this month, Ireland had a Tri-Nation T20I series in Scotland and the Netherlands, which they had won as leaders after 10 points. The last two points came with a thrilling victory against Scotland.
Because of this achievement, Ireland decided against tinkering with the squad. “The T20 International squad has improved quickly in the last series, and the character the players showed was admirable,” said Andrew White, chairman of the national men’s selection.
“They have demonstrated the fighting spirit that Irish teams are known for, and it’s great to see that prevail, especially among the newer members of the squad.”
“It is a real indication of great leadership qualities within the group and the experience that Gary [Wilson] brings to this page, which is often underestimated, but critical to a transitional side – and were crucial to our improvement in this format of the game.
“After his impressive debut, we obviously would have preferred to have David Delany available for Oman and the qualifier, but David is in the final year of his university studies and we had to balance his studies and playing as well as possible.” There have been ongoing discussions with David’s University who have supported his vacation from studies where he will be available in the UAE, “said White.
Ireland will start their Oman series on 5 October with a game against the Netherlands before playing against hosts Hong Kong and Nepal in quick succession.
