England took control of the fourth Test with South Africa and reduced the hosts to 88/6 after having 400 on The Wanderers.
Ollie Pope and Joe Root built on their partnership from the previous evening by putting England on 258/4 before Pope, who had crossed fifty for the third time in the series, tugged an Anrich Nortje shipment onto his stumps after the drinks had penetrated were leaving the morning session for 56.
Root soon followed the same bowler for 59 and Sam Curran pushed back from the next ball to exacerbate England’s misery. After Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes left England 318/9, South Africa would have been happy with their recovery.
