Aaron Finch, Australia’s limited oversized skipper, has already established strategies for the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup, which they host in October and November.
Although Australia has been crowned world champion in cricket over 50 five times, it still has to do so in the shortest possible format. On home soil, the 2020 edition offers a golden opportunity to do just that, and Finch and head coach Justin Langer have already begun to plan in that direction.
“[We’ve] had a couple of pretty short chats in the last few weeks, almost to make up a squad we believe can lead us to the World T20 in October and November,” Finch told ESPNCricinfo.

“Whether there are 24 or 25 players we believe can play a role in different scenarios, all we have to do is make sure we’re on the same side in terms of choices and stuff, and of course there are always curveballs . ” People who show up well and play well and start the season will really push. “
At the moment, Australia have sunk into the final round of a busy summer and play in the fifth and final Test of the Ashes. This was preceded by the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, in which they were beaten in the semifinals.
Although they have not played in the shortest format in over seven months, there are plenty of T20 crickets on the program: the 2010 World T20 finalists will play three games in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand and England next year.
They also had 11 players involved in the T20 explosion this year, including Cameron Bancroft, D’Arcy Short, Adam Zampa, Mitchell Marsh, Andrew Tye, James Faulkner, Glenn Maxwell, Dan Christian, Alex Carey, Mitchell Marsh and Finch. In addition, the repetition of the 2019/20 Big Bash League, which is set to last from December to February, will help them identify the players for the T20 World Cup.
“Over the next 8 to 10 months, there are many T20 players on the program, and the fact that the boys have more, and I suppose it’s a good thing for them to spend longer on limited-entry cricket “Finch said. “There will undoubtedly be some guys who jump out of the box and really raise their hand for these pages.”
