The England and Wales cricket board (ECB) has appointed all-rounder Moeen Ali as vice-captain for his ODI series against Ireland, which starts on Thursday 30 July.
Moeen Ali As Vice-Captain
The team is led by White Ball captain Eoin Morgan, but his usual substitute Jos Buttler will not play a part in the series due to his participation in the ongoing test series against West Indies – the teams will be kept under the separate biosafety protocols for both series.

Moeen played his 100th ODI as part of the successful 2019 ICC World Cricket Championship for men in England, although he dropped a game later due to a loss of shape. He triumphantly returned to the side during his South Africa tour and played a key role in her win with two wickets in the third and final ODI to pull the series 1-1.

As part of his duties, Moeen will lead a team during the two training games within the squad England will play before naming his last squad for the series. These warm-up games will be broadcast live on their website by the ECB on Tuesday 21 July and Friday 24 July and England Lions v Ireland on Sunday 26 July.
