The Nepal captain, Paras Khadka, has resigned from his leadership role after his team resumed membership on Monday, October 14, as an associate ICC member.
Nepal has been reinstated on the condition that it has been suspended in 2016 for violating the ICC provisions that prohibit government interference and require free and fair elections. The move could open up great prospects for Nepal and provide funding opportunities, but also brought with it a surprising phone call from Khadka, 31, who publicly announced his decision on social media on Tuesday, October 15.

The all-rounder led Nepal for the first time in the ODI series against the UAE in January of this year, making him the country’s first ODI talent maker. In September, he scored an undefeated 106 goal in a three-game match against Singapore and registered Nepal’s first-hundred in the format.
Khadka has a straight record as an ODI captain and won three out of six games from August 2018 to January 2019. His captaincy with T20Is had started in 2014 at the ICC Men’s T20 World Championship. He then led his team to 11 wins from 26 games completed, to the final pentagonal series in Oman, where they finished third and two victories in four games.
