The construction giants of the UAE, Al-Futtaim Construction and Laing O’Rourke, competed against each other in the final of the 2018/19 Expo 2020 Dubai Cricket Tournament, featuring crimson superstars Virender Sehwag from India and Misbah-ul-Haq Pakistan participated.
The last game, attended by 10,000 spectators at the Dubai International Stadium, was the result of numerous cricket matches played over the last three months between 32 teams from the Expo 2020 Dubai site workers.
Al-Futtaim Carillion defeated Laing O’Rourke in the final ball of the match in a gripping final with five wickets to defeat the trophy.
Sehwag and Misbah were presenters of the title “Best Bowler” and “Best Batsman” of the tournament, and according to Expo 2020 Dubai, “they also accompanied the finalists before the big game.”
Dubai’s Expo 2020 series was the second annual cricket competition that was part of the Better Together program, which builds on the core values of caring, respect and pride.
Tony Aikenhead, Chief Real Estate and Assurance Officer at Expo 2020 in Dubai, said Better Together “is based on the belief that only through close cooperation can we guarantee world-class HSQE and workers’ welfare standards.”
He continued, “This involves sharing knowledge and constantly improving alongside our supply partners, as well as celebrating our achievements together. That’s what the Expo 2020 Cricket Tournament in Dubai is all about. “
Sehwag and Misbah are considered veterans of the game by fans in India, Pakistan and around the world. Misbah led the Pakistani Test Cricket Team to 26 victories during his captaincy, making him the country’s most successful captain. Known for his punchy and spin bowling styles, Sehwag is known as the owner of several international cricket albums, including one for the fastest triple century (300 by 278 balls) in the history of the game.
Both Sehwag and Misbah competed against each other during the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Kingsmead in 2007 in a group game in which India defeated Pakistan in a “bowl-out”.
