Jupp Heynckes Celebrates His 75th Birthday Today even From Helmut Schön to Sepp Herberger and Ottmar Hitzfeld to the recently celebrated and recently crowned best FIFA men’s coach Jürgen Klopp – the list of German world-class coaches of the past 70 years is undoubtedly impressive.

Nevertheless, one man is often wrongly overlooked: Jupp Heynckes. The former striker is celebrating his 75th birthday today on May 9th.
If you look at his triumphs and achievements as a player and coach, it quickly becomes clear that only a few can hold a candle for his achievements. In addition to 369 Bundesliga games and 220 goals as a player, he also won world and European championships with Germany.
In addition to a short assignment at Hannover 96 (1967-70), Heynckes played for the Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach from 1962 to 1978.
It’s no surprise to learn that he switched to the coaching bench for The Foals just a year after hanging his boots there. In contrast to his active career, the coach Heynckes also ventured abroad and especially to Spain, where he celebrated numerous successes, while he was responsible for Athletic Bilbao, Tenerife and Los Blancos from Real Madrid.
His crowning glory, however, was his third of four missions with Bayern Munich. In 2013 he led the team to triple the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the UEFA Champions League – the first German coach to do so. One of the key figures in this historic triumph was Bastian Schweinsteiger, who wrote a letter to his former coach on the occasion of his birthday in the Munich magazine:
“Dear Jupp, I am delighted that I could not only get to know you as an exceptional trainer but also have a wonderful person as a friend. I learned a lot from you. You have openness, team spirit, honesty, work ethic, I miss today sometimes these values in football. The years with you may have been the best of my career.
You have achieved something that not many coaches can do: you have taken on board all the players and the entire team, including the bus drivers, kit managers, and employees. I know no one who has ever spoken badly of you. “

Heynckes was named FIFA World Coach of the Year after announcing his retirement from Bayern Munich in summer 2013. “It is obviously an enormous honor at the end of my career,” said Don Jupp after the award ceremony in January 2014. “It was almost 50 years as a player and coach and I experienced many ups, downs, successes and failures. He is fourth in the list of the best scorers of all time in the Bundesliga.
Heynckes played 369 Bundesliga games as a player and took on 669 games as a coach – a total of 1,038 top games in Germany. Only he and Otto Rehhagel (1,033) as players and coaches have reached the milestone of 1,000 Bundesliga games.
Eleven consecutive Champions League wins are a record that has not been beaten in Europe’s most prestigious club competition. Heynckes’ winning streak began in the quarter-finals 2012/13 with a 2-0 win over Juventus and peaked when Bayern won the cup later this season.
Continuing in October 2017, he surpassed the record of Louis van Gaal (ten consecutive wins between Barcelona and Bayern Munich between May 2000 and September 2009) and Carlo Ancelotti (ten consecutive wins between Real Madrid in April 2014 and February 2015).
