Tamim Iqbal will lead Bangladesh on his journey through Sri Lanka after captain Mashrafe Mortaza has been eliminated due to injury.
The right-hander sustained an injury to the left femoral tendon during exercise. Later, it turned out to be a Class One tear that put him out of action for three to four weeks.
Tamim already has international leadership experience after hauling the tigers in a test in New Zealand in 2017 following an injury to captain Mushfiqur Rahim. However, this will be his first time in ODIs.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board declined to name a substitute in the squad that has already been announced. The teams will compete in Colombo against three ODIs on July 26, 28 and 31.
