FIFA President Gianni Infantino, together with FIFA Vice-President and Concacaf President Victor Montagliani, today kicked off a three-day tour of the Caribbean with a first stop in the Cayman Islands.
The short visit had a full, football-centered program, including meetings with the leadership of the Cayman Islands FA (CIFA) and the national team players.
The day on Grand Cayman began with a visit to the CIFA headquarters. Coinciding with the Caribbean Football Union’s U-14 Girls Challenge Series, the FIFA President had the opportunity to see some of the Cayman Islands’ best young talents. Infantino and Montagliani met the local U-14 women’s national team, followed by an exchange with the captains of six Cayman Islands national teams.
The presidents of the global and regional governing bodies then met with CIFA President Alfredo Whittaker and officials at the CIFA headquarters. It was an opportunity to review the work of the National Association, as well as the specificities and progress of football in the country, from the restructuring of national leagues at both seniors’ and youth levels to the revision of national football for the various age groups , Coaching and referee. Special attention is also paid to the promotion of women’s football at the base.
At the end of the visit, the FIFA President addressed the press and praised the work of the current administration: “This is a visit to the CIFA, the Encouragement, we are working together to make football here in the Cayman Islands, where our sport takes place.
