VB Chandrasekhar, who played for India in seven international matches, died on Thursday, August 15, at the age of 57.
Chandrasekhar’s highest score in a short international career that ran between 1988 and 1990 was 53, but he was a domestic fighter. He had 4,999 runs of 81 first-class games, most of them for Tamil Nadu, with an average of 43.09 and 10 centuries. He played a big role in Tamil Nadu’s Ranji Trophy win in 1987-88 – the last time they won the prestigious trophy.

His 56-ball century in the Irani Trophy in 1988-89, a highly competitive start, was the fastest an Indian completed in first-class cricket.
After his active career he turned to commenting and coaching and was also a national selector. He was involved with Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and contributed significantly to bring MS Dhoni in the franchise.
Honors came from his peers when the cricket world was shocked by the news.
