After their historic victory at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2019, things have not gone according to plan yet, but their spirited performance at Lord’s will give them hope for the third Ashes test at Headingley.

Head coach Trevor Bayliss admitted they could reconsider their 12-player squad. With Jason Roy at the top of the leaderboard, hosts may consider opening with skipper Joe Root or Jonny Bairstow to take on that role in their White Ball cricket. James Anderson is still not in the mix for the third test; He will instead play for Lancashire’s second XI, where his performance will be judged.
Steve Smith’s absence is a blow to Australia as he recovers from a concussion. Marnus Labuschagne scored an impressive 59 after being called up as a substitute at Lord’s, but he’ll have big shoes to fill: Smith is the top scorer in the series and has been the main difference between the two teams so far.
Josh Hazlewood’s strong return is positive for the visitors. Australia now has to decide whether to get James Pattinson or Mitchell Starc while pausing another pacemaker.

Remember what happened in last test ?
The second test at Lord’s was exciting, though much of the test was lost to rain. Smith played 92 in the first innings, while Archer made a memorable debut. On Cricket’s first replacement for a concussion, Labuschangne replaced Smith after the former captain was hit in the head by an Archer doorman during the first innings. Rory Burns seems to be at the forefront of the job, while Pat Cummins and Hazlewood are celebrating fiery comebacks for the Australian XI.
